Meet twins Israel W and Sephora B Sawadogo
Location: Zangwetin, Kaya, Burkina Faso
Born: 24 August 2005
Project: Apostolic Church Kaya Child Development
Sponsorship: March 2013
Our sponsored twins Israel and Sephora live on the plains of Zangwetin, home to approximately 12,000 residents. Typical houses are constructed of dirt floors, mud brick on concrete brick walls and tin roofs. The primary ethnic group is Mossi and the most commonly spoken language is Moore.
Burkina Fasco, North West Africa
The regional diet consists of maize, beans, chicken, fish, bread, beef, rice, goat and millet. Common health problems in this area include malaria, meningitis and diarrhea. Most adults are unemployed but some work as day labourers and earn the equivalent of $20 per month. This community needs more public schools, income generating activities and employment opportunities.
Our sponsorship allows the staff of Apostolic Church Kaya Child Development Center to provide our sponsored twins Israel and Sephora with Bible teaching, games, hygiene education, social clubs, health activities, tuition and field trips. In addition, reading and writing skills teaching is available for non-schooled children. The centre staff will also provide income-generating activities, monthly meetings and HIV / AIDS awareness training for the parents or guardians of Israel and Sephora.
Israel and Sephora live with their father and his mother. Israel's duties at home include doing odd jobs and Sephora's duties include washing clothes, helping in the kitchen and doing odd jobs too. There are 3 children in their family. Their father occasionally works as a rural worker and his mother occasionally works as a rural worker. Due to low income their family struggles to survive.
As part of Compassion's ministry, Israel and Sephora participate in church activities and Bible class. They both attend primary school where they are making steady progress. Soccer, art and riding a bike are Israel's favourite activities and Sephora's favourite activities include singing, skipped and reading.
Because or our sponsorship, both Israel and Sephora have new opportunities to learn and grow physically, mentally and spiritually.
Thank you for your support and prayers.
